Bringing Spiritual Process to the Experience of Daily Life

Ellen Miller and Gary Sherman are the creators of the Perceptual Integration process and the authors of Silence and the Soul: Awakening Inner Wisdom. Their collaboration began while they were both students of meditation and contemplative spiritual practice. For twenty-five years they have lived and worked together, exploring the nature of consciousness and bringing their inner experience to their outer life, relationship and work.

For the past sixteen years they have taught together nationally on the subjects of Spiritual Process in Daily Life, Art and Consciousness, Awareness, Meditation, Conscious Relationships and Opening to an Inner Source. They are inspired teachers known for creating a safe and loving environment that encourages inner exploration. Their commitment to honor each person's process is a hallmark of their work.

Ellen's interest in the nature of consciousness was ignited in the late 1960's when she spent a year walking the Monterey coastline and realized that the solution to environmental issues required a shift in consciousness. Thus began a thirty-year exploration into her own inner experience. In 1983 Ellen was diagnosed with a fatal illness. Through meditative practice she connected with a source of inner wisdom that healed her and has guided her in her life and work. She has taught privately since 1984, supporting others in making a connection with their own inner experience. Ellen is an accomplished artist who paints on silk.

Gary is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Social Work. He is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice since 1972. Recognizing a greater dimension to consciousness than his western training provided, he began a life-long study of meditation and other forms of eastern spiritual practice. He has been a teacher of meditation and inner growth for twenty-five years. His experience represents a unique integration of western and eastern approaches to self-awareness. Gary is a sculptor who works in clay and stone.

Gary and Ellen make their home close to nature in the north Santa Cruz Mountains. They have three children and three grandchildren.
